Avoid holiday debt problems

Avoid holiday debt problems

- Wednesday, 5 May 2010

Consumers living beyond their means could save money on their travels, avoiding further debt problems, through the Post Office.

Post Office credit card holders will not be charged the 2.5 per cent cash advance fee when they purchase foreign currency online or in the branch, from May 4th.

Savings can be made this summer using this scheme and holiday-makers can also enjoy zero per cent interest on all purchases made abroad.

Az Alibhai, Post Office head of cards, said: "With many people still feeling the pinch this will give them a bit of extra cash in their pockets to enjoy on holiday. We are dedicated to providing customers with flexibility and value when it comes to managing their money."

If a holiday-maker wants €250 they can save money using the Post Office credit card instead of another card provider. The cost in sterling for this amount is £234.41 with an advance of £6.45.

www.hostel.com believes the 2009 trend for 'staycations' has ended and more people could be travelling abroad for their holidays, to places such as Copenhagen or Thailand.
