Holidaymakers living with debt problems could consider taking a mixture of cash and cards with them while abroad to ensure their financial arrears do not get any worse.

Bob Atkinson, travel expert at travelsupermarket.com, suggested that carrying around all your holiday cash with you at all times encourages others to try and steal it.

This could mean that the tourist loses a substantial amount of money and travel insurance policies will only cover lost or stolen money if it was carefully looked after, he stated.

Instead Mr Atkinson suggested taking a combination of cash and cards on holiday and to possibly use a pre-paid currency card.

"Instead of travelling with cash you can put your money on to a pre-paid card. The pre-paid cards are generally issued in sterling, euro and dollars," he said.

"There are no charges to use the card in a shop, [but] they may charge you to withdraw some cash from a machine but it's quite minimal."

In this way those living with debt problems can avoid making their money troubles worse as they can stop accruing charges on making cash withdrawals abroad.

According to sunshine.co.uk, four per cent of Brits carry all of their holiday money around with them at all times.
