'Better' employment figures to ease debt advice needs?

'Better' employment figures to ease debt advice needs?

- Friday, 27 November 2009

Better employment conditions in the UK could see fewer people coming to rely on debt help in the future.

According to the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC), employment figures have displayed some promising signs over the past three months.

Kevin Green, chief executive at the REC, said: "There are some good signs for the last three months. We're just starting to see growth in vacancies and placements in both temporary and permanent positions.

"I wouldn't say there were huge volumes coming through but it is certainly slightly better."

He made his comments after figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) revealed that labour market decline slowed in the third quarter of this year.

The improvement will come as good news to those who had been affected by the significant levels of joblessness prior to the rate slowdown.

ONS figures also show that between the three months to April 2008 and the three months to September 2009, the UK unemployment rate saw six quarterly increases.
