Brits coping with debt solutions may want to shop around for energy

- Friday, 4 February 2011

Consumers, including those living with debt problems, may want to shop around online to find a cheap energy tariff.

That is because uSwitch.com revealed yesterday (February 3rd) that another energy provider will be increasing its gas and electricity prices.

EDF Energy will be raising its gas prices by 6.5 per cent and electricity by 7.5 per cent from March 2nd.

It is hoped that 3.3 million customers will be affected, including some seeking debt advice.

Ann Robinson, director of consumer policy at the price comparison site, said: "Now this round of price increases has been completed consumers should be able to enjoy a period of stability.

"This means that it is an excellent time to shop around for a better deal, potentially saving up to £458, which would wipe the effect of price increases out and put money in the pocket ready for next winter."

Alternatively, if someone obtains their gas and electricity from British Gas they may want to take advantage of the firm's new deal.

It is offering 200,000 of its customers' free loft or cavity wall insulation, based on a first come first serve basis.
