Brits with debt problems advised to sign up for cheap energy tariffs as soon as possible

Brits with debt problems advised to sign up for cheap energy tariffs as soon as possible

- Tuesday, 5 April 2011

Brits, including those seeking debt advice, have been advised to sign up for a cheap online energy tariff as soon as possible.

Such is the suggestion of uSwitch.com, which states that three out of the six cheapest online tariffs have already been removed from the market.

This means the price of a cheap energy deal for new customers has increased by £34 or 3.7 per cent from £913 to £947 in the past few weeks.

Therefore, consumers worried about getting into energy debt have been urged to switch energy providers now to ensure they get a good deal before they are removed from the market.

Tom Lyon, energy expert at the price comparison site, said: "The key thing to take from all this movement in the market is that there are still some competitive plans out there, but there is clearly now no guarantee that they will be around for long.

"I really would urge consumers to see this as a last call and to sign up to one now before it is too late."

Elderly people and the vulnerable could get help with their energy bills as they can send them to the price comparison site who will then advise them on how to reduce their energy bills.
