Business travellers 'find it hard to manage debt'
- Tuesday, 9 June 2009Debt management can be difficult for business travellers when it comes to expenses relating to their work, it has been claimed.
Norman Gage, director of business travel at Advantage Business Travel Centres - a travel management organisation - explains that cash can be harder to keep track of.
As a result, some business travellers use credit cards instead, which might be seen as a more reliable way to
manage debt run up through work.
But Mr Gage argues that, when used overseas, shifting exchange rates can affect the amount that is originally spent and the sum which can be claimed back on expenses.
He encourages business travellers to ensure they always carry cash - and always get a receipt for their purchases.
Figures published earlier this month by credit card provider Barclaycard show the debt management impact that unclaimed expenses can have.
Almost a third (32 per cent) of people fail to reclaim their full expenses, with the shortfall averaging £373 per person per year.
