Buy second-hand baby equipment to save money

Buy second-hand baby equipment to save money

- Thursday, 22 July 2010

Expectant families living with debt problems could save money by buying second-hand baby equipment.

According to mumsnet, families can save money by purchasing baby goods on websites such as eBay.

Carrie Longton, co-founder of the website for mothers, said: "The thing about baby stuff is that it's quite cumbersome, people are actually desperate to get rid of it so you could probably get some stuff quite cheaply."

"I think that they [parents] have got to get over our squeamishness about potentially putting our kids in second-hand gear and second-hand clothes."

Therefore, parents that are living with or are worried about debt problems could consider shopping online to find cheap prams, cots or clothes.

Ms Longton added that the one area parents cannot skimp money on is childcare as there is enough emotional baggage about returning to work without feeling guilty about leaving a child in inadequate hands.

Her comments follow a survey, conducted by Aviva, which found that full-time childcare for two children costs about £17,000 a year.

As a result many parents are forced to cut their working hours, which may lead to debt problems.
