Buying online doesn't always save money

Buying online doesn't always save money

- Thursday, 27 May 2010

Shopping online does not always work out cheaper than buying goods on the high street, claims an expert.

For those living with debt problems, finding bargains online can be a good way to save money on products, but it is always best to shop around for the best deal.

Ed Bowsher, head of consumer finance at lovemoney.com, suggests searching price comparison sites to find the cheapest deal for an item.

He said: "In my experience, buying online is normally cheaper than buying on the high street. But it's not always the case and if you're shopping online you need to do some spadework to get the best deal. If you just visit one website, then you probably won't get the lowest price."

His comments follow the revelations of InvisbleHand which found that £300 million is wasted every year by consumers who take online prices at face value.

In this way consumers are losing money that could have aided a debt problem as 68 per cent go directly online without shopping around first, 52 per cent compare prices between just a few sites and eight per cent head directly to their favourite retailer.ADNFCR-2300-ID-19803777-ADNFCR
