CCCS: Bankruptcy change "makes sense" for debt sufferers
- Tuesday, 17 November 2009A UK debt charity has welcomed the news that the country's bankruptcy-filing protocol will be made quicker and easier to use.
The Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) has said that government plans to allow people to file for bankruptcy online rather than in the courts will help those that need it most - those with insurmountable
debt problems.
A spokesperson for the charity commented: "For those for whom bankruptcy is appropriate as a course of action, it makes sense that the process be speeded up to help to more quickly alleviate the financial pressures they are facing."
He went on to say that while the change to legislation was a welcome one, people should remain aware of the consequences of bankruptcy in the long-term and not consider it on a solely short-term basis.
The changes have been spear-headed by the Department for Business innovation and Skills and the Insolvency Service.
