Clear debt 'to lift the weight'

Clear debt 'to lift the weight'

- Monday, 15 June 2009

One resident of Stoke on Trent has told of how debt management help allowed him to eliminate £600 in overdraft charges - and remove some of the financial weight from his shoulders.

The 22-year-old, named Scooby, sought assistance from Citizens Advice in order to clear debt accrued due to entering an unauthorised overdraft.

He had attempted to withdraw £10 from his account, which had only £9 in available funds.

But the subsequent charges - and his reluctance to deal with the problem - led to £600 in costs accruing.

"I was getting loads of letters telling me to pay the money, but I just ignored them and put them in my bottom drawer," he tells Citizens Advice.

With debt management help from his local Citizens Advice Bureau, however, he was able to clear debt relating to the problem within four months.

"It really was like a weight lifted off my shoulders," Scooby says.

DebtFixers can provide information to individuals about the debt management options available to them via its dedicated helpline on 0800 707 6109.ADNFCR-2300-ID-19218334-ADNFCR
