Consumers urged to top up tanks before holidaying in Europe

Consumers urged to top up tanks before holidaying in Europe

- Tuesday, 8 June 2010

Holidaymakers can prevent getting into more debt problems by planning their journeys in advance and avoiding expensive petrol in Europe.

According to Post Office Travel Money, fuel prices in European destinations such as France have rocketed recently and it is now cheaper to buy petrol in the UK.

Furthermore, the company which offers travel insurance, advice and foreign currency suggests filling up the car in the UK before travelling to Europe.

Sarah Munro, head of Post Office Travel Money, said: "One thing to consider is getting the money sorted out before you go, particularly if you're taking a rural holiday.

"Places like rural France often may not take credit cards at the petrol station, so you want to make sure you have the right money with you."

Using cash can also prevent further debt problems as credit cards have high interest rates on all purchases made abroad, which can lead to a hefty bill.

Ms Munro also advised planning and preparing for a holiday before leaving because it will make the experience more enjoyable.

On June 4th, Stena Line revealed that it had seen an increase in the number of ferry bookings for the summer season, especially on the Irish Sea.
