Consumers with debt problems urged to seek debt advice 'sooner rather than later'

Consumers with debt problems urged to seek debt advice 'sooner rather than later'

- Friday, 7 January 2011

Brits dealing with debt problems have been advised to seek debt help as soon as possible to stop them getting worse.

David Rodger, managing director of the Debt Advice Foundation, stated that it is important to seek debt help if you are feeling financial pressures after overspending at Christmas.

He said: "Sadly debt problems only get worse over time, so it's worth asking for help and advice sooner rather than later."

Other recommendations that he made to those coping with money problems included trimming spending, cutting down on credit and looking for ways to save money.

Mr Rodger made these comments after Santander Cards revealed that over 2.8 million credit card holders are planning to shift £2.8 billion worth of debt onto a new card.

It was found that the average amount of debt that will be transferred to another card is £1,015, which is a reduction from £2,290 at the end of 2008.
