Could Halloween increase UK debt problems?
- Tuesday, 27 October 2009Frightening sums of money are expected to be spent on Halloween this year, with many people confessing they are stretching beyond their means.
That is according to research from Egg, which has found that UK parents will spend £200 million on ghoulish costumes and treats for the occasion, with 77 per cent confessing they will spend more than they can afford.
Some parents could find the excessive spending to be the final straw with regards to their finances and may subsequently require
debt advice.
Vanessa Wood, spokesperson for Egg, said: "Halloween has become much more of a calendar event in the UK than it used to be and we can see this reflected in the cost to parents."
She went on to say that the occasion is "only the tip of the iceberg" and that the half-term period in general would stretch parents' wallets.
