Nationwide has revealed it has placed a podcast on its website to help people beat fraudsters this Christmas.

The bank suggests that as the festive season is a notoriously busy time for the UK's fraudulent criminals, innocent consumers should do all in their power to protect themselves.

Should people heed the advice given on the audio excerpt, there could be a reduction in the number of people suffering unexpected financial loss. As such, fewer consumers may come to require debt advice.

Pete Corrie, head of fraud prevention at the bank, said that preparation was the key for those looking to beat the ID thieves.

He commented: "Each customer needs to take responsibility for protecting their personal details.

"If you want to make sure the festive season isn't spoilt by fraudsters you need to be aware of how they operate and make sure you don't fall into the traps they set."

Tips to avoid falling victim to fraud include never keeping PIN and card together and being wary of helpful strangers at cash points.
