Credit cards 'can help debt management'

Credit cards 'can help debt management'

- Tuesday, 9 June 2009

Financial advice often tells individuals to eliminate credit card debt as a priority.

However, with the summer holiday season approaching, tourists could find credit cards prevent them from entering debt management difficulties due to thefts while abroad.

Addy Frederick, PR assistant at UK payments association Apacs, notes that holidaymakers could find themselves out of pocket if they rely too heavily on cash.

"If you are a victim of theft and your bag is stolen, if you've got £100 worth of euros, you would be unlikely to get that back," explains Ms Frederick.

However, if a card is stolen the thief is unlikely to be able to access any funds without the appropriate pin number.

She stresses that tourists should make a separate note of the emergency cancellation number printed on the back of their credit card.

And there are further protections to help cardholders eliminate credit card debt should they become the victim of fraud when purchasing items for delivery.

Non-delivered or faulty items of between £100 and £30,000 can be claimed back from the card provider, Ms Frederick points out.ADNFCR-2300-ID-19209409-ADNFCR
