Debt advice could help 'battered' savers

Debt advice could help 'battered' savers

- Thursday, 24 September 2009

More than four-fifths of people believe that the chancellor could have done more to encourage saving.

That is according to a recent survey by moneysupermarket.com, which found that 84 per cent of people believe the government has not done enough to encourage people to put money away.

People who are struggling to save as a result of debt problems could consider seeking professional debt advice.

Moneysupermarket.com's research comes in response to the recent news that the annual ISA allowance for over-50s is to be increased by £3,000.

Kevin Mountford, head of banking at the website, said: "Savers might rightly feel they have taken something of a battering over the last year, with the dramatic fall in the Base Rate bringing down the rates on savings deals."

Only 16 per cent of people believe the chancellor has done all he can with the recession-impacted resources.

Unbiased.co.uk recently revealed that Britons are spending £144 million in unnecessary tax payments as a result of not using an ISA.ADNFCR-2300-ID-19376482-ADNFCR
