Debt advice could help Britain's 40% of non-savers
- Wednesday, 16 September 2009Forty per cent of Britons are not managing to contribute towards savings, new research has found.
According to Santander, the overall number of savers has fallen by six per cent since the start of the year, with 26 per cent saving less than they did in 2008.
People who are having difficulty with their finances during the recession but would like to try and start saving could find speaking to a
debt advice specialist of help.
Reza Attar-Zadeh, Director of Savings & Investments, suggests that, owing to the financial climate, it is advisable for people to save where possible.
He said: "It's not too late for those Britons who haven't kick-started their savings habit to make a start - putting aside even a small amount each month will quickly add up to help provide them with a safety net in today's difficult economic climate."
The research from Santander also found that among those who are able to save, the amount put away has increased by 26 per cent since January.
