Debt advice could help nursery owners manage recession
- Friday, 21 August 2009Britain's nursery owners could suffer from a recession 'domino effect' as parents pull their children out of pre-schools to cope with the effects of rising unemployment.
A report from Daycare Trust suggests that as a result of the widespread withdrawal of children a number of nurseries across the country will be forced to close, according to the Mirror.
Those who have seen their businesses fold might consider seeking
debt advice to formulate a plan on how best to tackle their altered financial situation.
Joe Caluori, author of the report, said: "If unemployment rises sharply many nurseries will go bust and so deny many more parents vital help. They could have to choose between their job and their children.
"Childcare in the recession must be a priority for the Government. They need to act now or risk making unemployment worse."
The Office for National Statistics reported earlier this month that unemployment had risen to 2.4 million.
