Debt advice could help people start a family
Debt advice could help people start a family
- Friday, 13 November 2009Finance and families are closely linked, both in the opinion of the general public and according to past economic and baby boom statistics.
A recent survey by savings group NS&I found that 64 per cent of Britons believe people should be financially secure before they start a family.
Those who are struggling with balancing their income and outgoings could find seeking
debt help allows them to reorder their finances and deem a family affordable.
Tim Mack, NS&I savings spokesman, said that while the decision to have a baby was more than just about money, there was little doubt that it was a major factor.
He commented: "Starting a family is always going to be much more than a purely economic decision, [though] Britons are
considering their financial future when deciding on the number of children they will have."
The Future Foundation suggests that baby booms often follow economic booms, with people keener to reproduce as a result of increased affordability.
