Debt advice needs could rise among IT workers as businesses "cull" jobs
- Tuesday, 11 August 2009The number of people seeking
debt advice within the IT industry could rise as the sector continues to make job cuts.
As with a number of sectors within the UK jobs market, the IT industry is suffering as a result of the recession.
However, according to ComputerworldUK.com the redundancies happening across the sector can be countered with increased government investment.
Siobhan Chapman, deputy editor at the website, said: "Redundancies
are happening across the IT industry, from IT managers right through to IT contractors and lower level back office workers, as businesses look to cull jobs and reign in costs.
"Just as the government invested in the railways during the great depression, today they are investing in technology. The goal is to position the UK as a leader in the hi-tech industry."
In April of this year, the UK saw a 50 per cent decline in the number of vacancies advertised online.
