Debt help could aid retirees until parties resolve pension problem

Debt help could aid retirees until parties resolve pension problem

- Thursday, 17 September 2009

Calls have been made for the UK's political parties to show greater leadership concerning pension policies.

Just Retirement has listed a number of aspects in which it feels the government - or prospective government - should push for reform.

Due to the slow process of passing government legislation, retirees struggling financially could consider speaking to a debt help advisor.

Nigel Barlow, head of research at Just Retirement, said that pension policy should be afforded greater significance.

He commented: "If the political parties are serious about providing solutions to the pension issue, they must accord it the importance it deserves.

"We believe that a clear signal of intent in this regard would be the appointment of a Cabinet level minister whose mandate would cover all aspects of pre and post retirement planning."

He went on to say that all parties should incorporate pension change into their general election manifesto and ensure the attentions of the elderly demographic.
