Debt help could counter home insurance fraud
Debt help could counter home insurance fraud
- Tuesday, 6 October 2009Owing to the detrimental effects of the recession a number of Britons admit they would consider making a false home insurance claim.
That is according to research from moneysupermarket.com, which revealed that five per cent of the public would think about submitting an inaccurate claim, with a fifth of this number having already done so.
Julie Owens, head of home insurance at the price comparison website, said that while a number of people blamed the recession for their behaviour, it remained illegal and should not be condoned.
She commented: "Our survey shows that many consumers believe it is acceptable to make a false or exaggerated claim on their home insurance.
"No matter how tempting, fabricating a claim for a pay out is not only wholly inadvisable but it is also illegal and you could face being prosecuted as a result."
It was also recently reported that many people were filing false car insurance claims.
