Debt help required for overspending Brits?

Debt help required for overspending Brits?

- Tuesday, 13 April 2010

Britons could be getting into debt problems as new research reveals that 60 per cent of respondents were exceeding their budgets each month.

Altogether, spend happy Brits overspent by £41 billion last year alone.

That is according to research conducted by moneybasics.co.uk, which shows that while three quarters of the UK's adult population are budgeting, three fifths of those are not sticking to it.

Chris Tapp, a spokesperson for the organisation, was concerned by the findings.

"Easy access to cheap credit has conditioned many to believe it doesn't matter if they spend too much as they can always borrow to meet any shortfall," he said.

"Sadly it is this type of thinking that has trapped thousands in a cycle of misery and debt."

Debt solutions can be hard to come by and many people who have over-extended themselves on credit cards could benefit from individual voluntary arrangement and debt management advice.

Perhaps most telling of all the research's findings was that those with significant amounts of unsecured personal debt were most likely to go over budget.

This means that a significant majority of the people who should most need to stick to a budget are having the most difficulty in doing so.

In order to avoid becoming trapped under the burden of debt, experts advise that professional advice is sought at as early a date as possible.ADNFCR-2300-ID-19717530-ADNFCR
