Debt management may be needed after Valentines Day splurge

Debt management may be needed after Valentines Day splurge

- Wednesday, 10 February 2010

Brits may need debt help after Valentines Day, with new figures indicating high levels of spending among couples.

New research from Yorkshire Bank estimates the UK will spend £4.9 billion on romance this Valentines Day, equivalent to each couple forking out £550.

Women are expected to spend the most, with an average of £338 - a third more than their other halves.

Many women will spend more on their appearance in preparation for the day, including around £100 on a new outfit, more than £50 on getting their hair styled, and over £130 on beauty treatments, according to the survey.

Commenting on the findings, head of retail at Yorkshire Bank Steve Fletcher said: "Our research looked at the different spending habits of men and women, expecting to see men bare the largest cost.

"But while men go for the gestures like flowers and dinner, women splash out much more in ensuring they look and feel their best for their partner."ADNFCR-2300-ID-19607495-ADNFCR
