Debt management needs could continue with misguided optimism

Debt management needs could continue with misguided optimism

- Friday, 4 September 2009

A number of UK consumers could continue to find themselves in financial difficulty and in need of debt management, despite recent suggestions that the end of the recession is looming.

While some experts are predicting that the third quarter of the year will indicate growth, warnings are being sounded that even if the recession proves to be over, people should not forget that things will not miraculously return to how they were.

Michael Baxter, economist at Defaqto, believes that people have over-hyped a potential recovery and should remain aware of the fact that a boom is not on the cards.

He said: "I think [with] all this green shoots talk there is a possibility that it has been exaggerated. I do think that maybe the exuberance has run away with us a little bit over the last few months.

"We are not going to have a boom like we had a few years ago, I don't think that is going to happen for quite some time."

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development recently suggested that recovery from the global recession would arrive quicker than initially expected.
