Debt problems could make people ill without the right support

Debt problems could make people ill without the right support

- Friday, 9 July 2010

Living with debt problems and coping with financial stress could make people sick with worry, especially as money has become a status symbol.

According to Dr Sheila Keegan of Campbell and Keegan Ltd, a business consultancy, worrying about money can lead to lots of anxiety and fears about the future.

Furthermore, if a man is made redundant he can feel like a failure and slip into depression because the purpose for a lot of men is to support their families, she added.

Dr Keegan told consumers: "We all have to try and reduce the amount that we spend and we have to go back to the pleasures that we had before we became obsessed with money."

She also believes that getting social support can help people cope with the stress of financial difficulties.

Consumers can isolate themselves as they feel ashamed about debt problems.

A survey by AXA revealed on July 7th that Money Sickness Syndrome has damaged the well-being of up to 42 million adults in the UK.

Cases of Money Sickness Syndrome, worrying about finances so much that people become ill, has doubled since 2006.ADNFCR-2300-ID-800001063-ADNFCR
