East Englanders get help to eliminate debt
- Tuesday, 8 December 2009People who live in the east of England could clear their debts sooner than expected as a result of new funding from Europe.
The East of England Development Agency (EEDA) has received £400,000 from its European Social Fund department to help the area's residents improve their financial skills, according the Citizens Advice Bureau.
With more people regaining control of their finances, an increased number of East Englanders could find themselves in a position whereby they can
get out of debt.
Sheila Childerhouse, EEDA board member and deputy chair, said the development of such skills were essential in what is a challenging time financially.
She told the charity: "Skills and attitudes towards money management are important in every aspect of people's lives, especially in these tough economic times.
"This project will develop the financial capability skills of vulnerable people in the region and help them participate more fully and actively in the regional economy."
Those who do not live in the east of England, and will not therefore find themselves within the scheme's catchment area, could find speaking to a
debt advice specialist of help.
