'Enjoy Summer' even with debt problems

'Enjoy Summer' even with debt problems

- Thursday, 6 May 2010

Debt problems should not stop borrowers having an enjoyable summer as there are plenty of free activities to enjoy, reports the Guardian.

Consumers who have little spare cash due to debt problems can still go to music festivals, concerts, see films and even gain qualifications over the summer months.

Volunteering can open up a wide range of activities for cash-stricken people. For example some tasks can lead to a formal work-based national volunteer qualification in areas such as management or counselling.

Alternatively volunteering for a festival can guarantee cheap entry. Oxfam organises stewarding at some festivals and jobs include ticket checking and staffing ages in exchange for access.

V, a festival that provides young people with volunteering opportunities, has launched a new initiative for this summer which could help students struggling with debt problems get into a festival.

Summer of Give, which is open to 18-25 year olds, gives the volunteer a fee ticket to the festival in exchange for four hours of work a day.

A spokesperson for the company said: "We are looking for volunteers with a special talent that they would like to showcase on the bigvbus. From music to fashion design, we are looking for volunteers to help us create a programme of events that will showcase the talents of young people."

The V Festival takes place simultaneously in Chelmsford and Staffordshire on the penultimate weekend of August.ADNFCR-2300-ID-19761835-ADNFCR
