Families may need debt help as the pressure on household finances looks set to increase

Families may need debt help as the pressure on household finances looks set to increase

- Thursday, 27 January 2011

Families could find that they need debt advice in the future as households are starting to feel more pressure in terms of their finances.

According to Mark Bower, managing director of moneymaxim.co.uk, people used to rely on credit to supplement their income but this has now become more expensive and harder to obtain.

However, this could be a good thing as this will help people avoid accruing debt problems.

Instead, families struggling with their finances should try to set a budget and stick to it and review their household bills by shopping around online for better tariffs.

Mr Bower said: "Households without savings to weather the storm really need either to increase income which is more difficult in the current environment or to reduce expenditure."

He made these comments after research by Co-operative Insurance and Shelter found that 28 per cent of struggling Brits are having to spend more money than they have coming in each month.
