Find an online plan to make savings on energy bills

Find an online plan to make savings on energy bills

- Tuesday, 7 September 2010

People living with debt problems should consider searching online for the best energy deals in order to save money.

According to uSwitch.com, the gap between the cheapest online plan for energy and the most expensive is now £100.

This is because the six leading energy firms have started to introduce more expensive energy plans to replace their highly competitive ones.

Therefore, it would be wise for consumers, including those with debt problems, to search online for the cheapest energy prices before they increase even more.

For example, ScottishPower has now launched an energy plan that costs £962 a year, which is a £47 increase on last year's prices.

Tom Lyon, energy expert at the comparison site, said: "Online energy plans are consistently the most competitive in the market, only recently coming in at around £300 a year cheaper than standard plans.

"But with suppliers gradually pushing their online prices up we are starting to see the difference shrink."

Ofgem recently announced that it will be investigating four of the main energy providers regarding the misselling of fuel by doorstep salespeople.
