Fuel duty rise could increase debt help needs
Fuel duty rise could increase debt help needs
- Wednesday, 2 September 2009The government implemented an increase in fuel duty yesterday, as proposed in the Budget earlier this year.
An increase in the level of taxation placed on motorists could prove to be a bill too far for some.
At a time when many UK citizens are struggling financially, increased expenditure could result in deeper debts.
Those who find themselves in such a position could consider speaking to a
debt help specialist.
Philip Gomm, a spokesperson for the RAC Foundation said: "There must be big question marks as to the point of this policy. At a time when motorists are struggling under the strain of the credit crunch, to impose yet more taxation on them is bizarre.
"Many people drive for business and when every penny really does count, the rise will hit firms where it hurts."
According to the AA, 75 per cent of drivers believe there is not a single "motorist friendly" political party.
