Have a cheap and fun summer holiday with the family

- Monday, 19 July 2010

Families living with debt problems may be concerned about the summer holidays, especially in terms of spending money on days out.

In a new survey of 2,000 parents, conducted for the Nectar Credit Card from American Express, it was found that 27 per cent were concerned about the amount of money they would spend during the school holidays.

Many have decided to use reward schemes or vouchers in order to cut the costs this summer and possibly avoid getting into further debt problems.

Elisabeth Leblanc, head of partnerships at American Express, said: "By budgeting throughout the year and clever use of reward and loyalty schemes, cost conscious parents can ensure they have lots of fun activities and days out planned to keep their families occupied over the summer."

According to moneysupermarket.com, 83 per cent plan of parents to use vouchers on entrance to theme parks or eating out in order to stretch their money further.
