Internet debt help sought mostly by under-40s

Internet debt help sought mostly by under-40s

- Friday, 9 April 2010

Of those struggling with debt problems, the under-40s are mostly to seek debt advice online.

That is according to new statistics from the Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS), a leading debt advice charity.

Approximately two-thirds of the 150,000 people who used the CCCS's online debt help tool last year were under 40 years of age.

This proportion remained constant from the previous year's figures.

Commenting on the findings, CCCS head of e-services Paula Searle was unsurprised.

"The higher rates of online debt counselling users in any particular category is likely to be a combination of need for help with their debts and general internet usage," she said.

Statistics also showed that slightly more women than men were seeking debt help online, with 53 per cent of usage.

Unsurprisingly, the income group who used the online tool least, proportionally, were those earning over £30,000. Those earning between £10,000 and £19,999 were most likely to look to the internet for debt solutions.

Regional variations also showed up, with most users coming from the south-east.ADNFCR-2300-ID-19712967-ADNFCR
