Life priorities could see more people requiring debt help

Life priorities could see more people requiring debt help

- Friday, 3 July 2009

The number of people requiring debt help in the future could increase as a result of an imbalance between life's priorities and concerns.

Though people list "having less money saved" and "having enough retirement money" in their top four life concerns, these two issues only appear at numbers seven and nine respectively, in the list of life's priorities.

That is according to research from LV=, which highlights a dangerous imbalance between what people feel they should do financially and what they actually do financially.

Mike Rogers, LV= group chief executive, said: "Rather than doing away with valuable insurance or eating into savings, it is important for people to take stock of their financial situation.

"Everyone can take some financial steps, however small, towards protecting the things they love most in life."

Perhaps most concerning, was people's concern at not having enough money saved – it was the second biggest concern – but only listing the concern at number seven in the priorities list.

It is this imbalance particularly, that could result in an increase in the number of people seeking debt advice.
