New card encourages consumers to pay credit card debt

New card encourages consumers to pay credit card debt

- Tuesday, 4 May 2010

Despite fears that forthcoming changes to the credit card market will have a negative impact, a new card has been launched that could help borrowers pay off their credit card debt.

Clydesdale and Yorkshire Bank has launched a Gold MasterCard credit card with no interest on balance transfers for 16 months and no annual fee to help people save money.

A credit card expert from Moneysupermarket.com believes this card could be a good way for consumers to pay off credit card debt that is over 16 months old and offers a "fantastic opportunity to get back on an even keel".

Peter Harrison, the expert in question, said: "Sixteen months interest free on balance transfers should enable a good number of credit card users to clear their credit card debt without having to face steep interest rates."

He added that consumers should work out the exact repayments needed to pay off their debt in 16 months and see if it fits within their budgets.

There is also no interest on all purchases for three months. The launch of this credit card could allay fears that some experts have about proposed policies to cap store and credit card interest rates by the Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives.ADNFCR-2300-ID-19756219-ADNFCR
