NPower announces price increases which may affect those with debt problems

- Monday, 13 December 2010

NPower has revealed that it will be increasing its energy prices from January 4th, which may affect those living with debt problems.

It was announced that gas and electricity prices will be increased by 5.1 per cent and more than four million customers will be faced with higher energy bills.

Gareth Kloet, head of household for confused.com, stated that the average annual energy bill will increase from £1,196 to £1,261.

This could mean that those with debt problems will be unable to find the extra cash to pay these bills so they may like to shop around for the best deals.

Mr Kloet said: "Now may be the time to consider the security of fixed rates that are fast disappearing off the market.

"Good value deals are still available and it is crucial that customers vote with their feet in the face of these rises and do not stay put and hope for the best."

NPower is the fifth energy provider to announce price hikes in recent months.

Consumer Focus has therefore updated its Confidence Code to help consumers use the internet to switch energy provider and find the best deals.
