Online debt management 'more prevalent with men'

Online debt management 'more prevalent with men'

- Tuesday, 14 April 2009

More men manage debt online than women, according to research from Halifax.

The financial services provider reveals that 64 per cent of men prefer to manage their savings accounts online.

However, fewer than half (49 per cent) of women take advantage of the flexibility that online banking has to offer.

Those who do not take advantage of online debt management could be missing out, as nine per cent of people log on every day to check their balance.

And younger bankers are most likely to prefer to manage debt online than in-branch, as 70 per cent look to the internet when checking on their savings.

One in five (20 per cent) visit their branch as the preferred option, while telephone banking finds favour with just one per cent of the age group.

The figures could indicate a growing trend for Britons to save regularly - the opposite of the pattern which the Halifax recently reported.

Launching its Christmas Saver regular savings account, the financial services provider explained that it hoped to reverse the neglect given by many households to their rainy-day pots.ADNFCR-2300-ID-19118937-ADNFCR
