Parents with debt problems may want to find cheap activities for the Easter holidays

- Monday, 11 April 2011

Parents with debt solutions may want to find cheap activities to do with their children over the Easter holiday, which may be achieved by shopping around for discount vouchers.

A new report by LV= Insurance found that the Easter break and back-to-back bank holidays will cost parents an extra £3.5 billion in total on childcare and entertainment.

It was found that one in ten parents are concerned about the extra financial cost associated with this year's holidays.

The main activities that parents will be choosing to keep their children occupied this holiday include watching a DVD at home (50 per cent) and playing computer games at home (41 per cent).

It was also found that 59 per cent of parents are planning to use discount vouchers for attractions in order to cut costs.

Mark Jones, head of protection at the firm, said: "I don't think any parent would begrudge the money they do spend on their children, and many will also find savvy ways to reduce costs."

A new report by Friends Life found that middle class families may be hit worse financially by the government's austerity cuts than any other sector of society.
