Pensioners' debt management 'is overlooked'
Pensioners' debt management 'is overlooked'
- Thursday, 9 April 2009The capacity for pensioners to manage debts is being overlooked as "there are bigger fish to fry" in the current economic climate.
Such is the assertion of Neil Duncan-Jordan, national officer for the National Pensioners Convention.
He explains that debt management difficulties are nothing new for pensioners as they cannot increase their savings after retirement.
With high fuel bills and low interest rates accruing on those savings, many retirees could be facing renewed financial pressure.
But, in a climate of job losses and "a massive recession", he adds: "People struggling to get by and pay their heating bills is pretty low down the priority list."
Elderly citizens who are finding it difficult to manage debts might benefit from expert advice on how to regain a secure financial footing.
A
debt management consultant could be the key to surviving through the current downturn for those who had expected to be able to live off their savings in retirement.
