People with debt problems may benefit from cheaper broadband

People with debt problems may benefit from cheaper broadband

- Friday, 21 January 2011

Britons living with a debt solution may benefit from a reduction in the price of broadband.

Ofcom has announced that in areas where BT is the main provider for the internet, prices will be reduced, which should benefit around three million households.

Prices will be reduced by between 10.75 per cent and 14.75 per cent below inflation in rural areas.

Those with debt problems could be reassured by this proposal as it could mean they have to pay out less money for broadband.

Ernest Doku, technology expert at uSwitch.com, stated that this was a welcome move as smaller internet providers may be encouraged to reach areas of the UK they have not previously.

He said: "Access to the internet is an essential today as it gives consumers access to cheaper goods and services and valuable discounts.

"Universal broadband is also important in preventing social exclusion, so it's vital that consumers aren't left behind based on their postcode."

Britons seeking debt help may find access to the internet useful as they could sign up for an online energy tariff, which may work out cheaper than a normal one.
