One of Alistair Darling's Pre-Budget report revelations could see an increase in the number of people able to deal with their debts.

The chancellor of the exchequer revealed yesterday (December 9th) that the Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) will receive further funding from the government.

In 2008, a £10 million fund was drawn up for the charity to allow it to remain open for longer and help more people address their debt problems.

This programme had initially been planned to run until March of next year, but will now carry on past this date thanks to an extra £5 million of funding.

David Harker, chief executive of the charity, said: "The £5 million of new funding announced today will allow the Additional Hours of Advice project - as it is known - to be extended into the new financial year and will enable us to help significantly more people."

The CAB expects to have helped an extra 335,000 people by the end of the original finish date thanks to the government's allotted financial support.
