Repossession advice site could contribute to debt recovery

Repossession advice site could contribute to debt recovery

- Thursday, 3 September 2009

A new website has been launched by the Ministry of Justice to help people faced with repossession.

The website, which was launched on the last day of August, could be a useful tool for people to use in conjunction with professional debt advice sought from a financial advisor.

Chris Jenkins, co-owner of the Homeowner's Advice Centre, said that the possibility for consumers to find repossession advice on such a site was a welcome addition to the options currently available.

He commented: "I believe that the government's new site is a positive step in bringing advice to people in an easily accessible format.

"Along with the government's own initiatives, local councils, debt charities and mortgage lenders themselves are able to offer advice."

The Council of Mortgage Lenders has revealed that the number of repossessions fell in the second quarter of this year to 11,400 from 12,700 in the first three months.
