Sell unwanted Christmas gifts to help pay off debt problems
- Thursday, 30 December 2010Consumers living with
debt problems could find the time between Christmas and the New Year ideal for sorting out their finances.
Jasmine Birtles, founder of moneymagpie.com, gave this advice as some people will have overspent this Christmas.
Some
debt solutions could be to switch bills, such as gas and electricity, to cheaper ones and to start making some extra cash, she said.
Ms Birtles recommended: "A lot of people will be getting presents that they don't want.
"They can start to see what they can sell there and really start early before the credit card bills come in and they can start getting in some extra cash so they have a bit of something for when the nasty bills start coming in."
In this way consumers may be able to avoid needing
debt help in the future.
According to recent research from unbiased.co.uk Brits repaid 10p of debt for every pound they saved in the third quarter in 2010 compared to 18p in the previous three months.
