Students can make money in their own homes

Students can make money in their own homes

- Thursday, 23 September 2010

Students worried about future debt problems could find ways of making money in their own home by using the internet.

That is the suggestion of Jasmine Birtles, founder of moneymagpie.com, which contains information about making and saving money.

She said: "There are ways that students can make money even from their computer - I think more students should think about this.

"There are lots of little ways that you can make a bit of extra cash even if it's just online surveys."

If parents are particularly concerned about sending their child off to university, they could consider loading a prepaid card with about £100 to be used in an emergency, Ms Birtles added.

In this way, students may find that they have to borrow less or dip into their overdraft less frequently in order to fund their living costs, which may prevent debt problems in the future.

New research by the Consumer Financial Education Body, found that 71 per cent of parents of undergraduate students are concerned about providing money for their child, while they are at university.
