The most vulnerable families can help themselves by seeking debt advice

- Thursday, 20 January 2011

The most vulnerable families, who are worried about clearing their debt problems, should take a step back and look at where their money is going.

Such is the opinion of a spokeswoman for Aviva, which is the world's fifth largest insurance group.

She said: "It can be a temptation for people to stick their heads in the sand when money is tight, but by actually sitting down and looking where income is really spent, it can be possible to manage money in a more effective way."

One of the ways in which a family could sort out their finances is by seeking debt help, as they will be able to find out more about the options available to them, such as a debt solution.

Aviva recently released a new report that found 90 per cent of families do not feel adequately protected in terms of their finances.

The main reason for this is that the family did not have a life insurance policy, which does not have to be expensive.

It was also found that single parent families are the most likely to be debt-free (40 per cent) compared to those formed of a committed couple intending to have children (36 per cent).
