Under-25s increasingly using Citizens Advice for debt help

Under-25s increasingly using Citizens Advice for debt help

- Thursday, 18 November 2010

The number of under-25s seeking debt help from the Citizen's Advice Bureau has increased by 21 per cent in the last 12 months.

At least a third of the enquiries made by young people were about debt problems, while benefit troubles accounted for a quarter.

Another 12 per cent sought help about employment and ten per cent were concerned about their housing rights and benefit.

As a result, the national charity has launched a new website called advice4me, which is specifically targeted at the under 25 age group.

Young people will be able to find information relating to debt, benefits and employment amongst other issues and to help them seek advice.

Gillian Guy, chief executive of Citizens Advice, said: "It can be scary and daunting to seek advice if you have a problem - but more often than not, the sooner you tackle it the easier it is to put right."

M&S Money recently advised parents to pass on their financial knowledge to their teens as they may help them avoid getting into debt problems in later life.
