Vouchers to cope with debt problems?

Vouchers to cope with debt problems?

- Monday, 12 July 2010

More consumers are downloading and using promotional vouchers than they were a year ago, perhaps to help cope with debt problems.

According to the market research firm, Valassis LTD, 28 per cent of consumers are looking for promotional offers as the cost of living has increased.

People living with debt problems could be using vouchers in order to enjoy a meal in a restaurant without having to break the bank to do so.

The most popular type of voucher was for restaurant chains as 57 per cent of consumers have downloaded one in the past year and 29 per cent have used them for supermarket shopping.

Charles D' Oyly, managing director of Valassis Europe, said: "Even though we are officially out of recession, costs continue to rise and consumers are demanding best value from everyone on the high street, from supermarkets to cinemas and restaurants."

Total online sales also increased in the run-up to the World Cup, suggesting consumers are searching for bargains on the internet as a way of dealing with debt problems.
