Youngsters seeking debt advice may increase even further

Youngsters seeking debt advice may increase even further

- Friday, 19 November 2010

The number of young people seeking debt advice may increase due to a hike in tuition fees and the slow jobs market.

That is the opinion of a spokesperson from the Consumer Credit Counselling Service, who stated that those aged between 18 and 25 are the most likely to seek debt help.

She said: "It is important for people of any age, but particularly [for] young people who often have smaller incomes, to be money aware, keep track of their finances and establish good money management habits early on."

These comments were made after the Citizens Advice Bureau announced on November 15th that the number of under 25s seeking help had increased.

Over the last year, the number of youngsters seeking help with their problems increased by 21 per cent, reported the charity.

At least three quarters of a million under 25s went to the charity for help over the last year and around a third needed advice about debt problems.
